In unEarthed, electroacoustic chamber group Fuse Ensemble presents music that explores our current disconnect from the Earth, and looks to find a path forward through collective moments of transformation.
Fuse Ensemble’s unEarthed concert series will begin with a pre-show listening experience of a sonic profile of the evolving Virginia coast and nearby coastal waterways during these most precipitous times of rapid global warming. These ecological sound recordings are part of long term ecological research at Coastal Futures Conservatory (directed by composer and professor at UVA Matthew Burtner) and Virginia Coast Reserve, and The Volgenau Virginia Coast Reserve, a member of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Program, dedicated to establishing a scientific basis for enhancing the relationship between people and their environments. Sounds such as underwater grasses, pebbles, oyster beds and crab flutes are exquisitely presented in sparkling underwater recordings. Composer/Professor Matthew Burtner will be there to introduce his piece at the performance.
Fuse Ensemble will perform new music by contemporary classical composers Matthew Burtner, Brittany J. Green, Jenni Brandon, Gabriella Smith and Gina Biver, along with the stunning projected visuals by artist Sarah Aha.
